Warlords squabble for the remains of a weak empire. Some of them want nothing but to gorge on their small reigns, and some want to unify a divided nation. A small army of a small province marches forth to meet destiny.
Introduction
This game was inspired by the Pokémon Conquest game. The setting is the island nation of Ransei (who is totally not GRORIOUS NIPPON). After decline of the imperial prestige, various warlords fight to increase their fiefs and crush potential rivals. Among them are the players, a small band of official Samurai fighting alongside their General.
Game day is still to be announced (or negotiated), but the time will be from 17-22 PM EST.
Character Creation
Trainer Level 10
One Poké at level 20, two at 15 with two egg moves each. B/W 2 Movesets please!
15000 PY as starting money. TM prices as according to book.
Pokédexes replaced by 'Scrolls'! Balls are apricorns, and people who want to play as engineer (no worry, you'll get a feat point to replace enhanced range) or other sciency classes: talk to me.
You'll also get 'Tactical Powers', which will affect your army's performance when being led by the player characters. There will be more clarifications in the future, and they will be chosen after a dialogue between trainer and GM.
Some other shit on the future???
Contact me, P-dawg, on irc if you want to do shit yo!
Background: Make up something to justify serving with your fellow PCs as the warlords of the former Imagawa Clan and new… Family?
About Tactical Powers: An officer can have a 'permanent' and a 'temporary' tactical power. Permanent powers work like Static feats and give you a minor advantage in something while a temporary power gives you a strong yet temporary boost. The stronger it is the lower is the duration, so mind when to use those!
Homebrew Rules: Mass Combat.
The thing about this game is that some of your battles will not only be skirmishes or one-on-ones, but massive brawls between different armies. There are various different factors that will influence an army's battle, so even a small group of dozens of warriors, provided with the right stuff, can destroy a squad of hundreds or even thousands.
The four factors that influence an army's strength are:
Size: This one is obvious. Numerical superiority is still a great deal on the battlefield.
Pokémon typing: Foot soldiers usually use unexperienced and weak Pokémon, so their type is the only unbalancing factor between armies.
Unit typing: Some kinds of warriors are better in some situations than others. The most used ones follow a four way triangle, with each weapon or equipment one-upping another. The way it goes is: Cavalry -> Bowmen -> Swordsmen -> Spearmen -> Cavalry, but there are some special units have different weaknesses and strengths…
Equipment: Logistics and equipment can make quite the difference in a fight! A well-fed and well-equipped army can fight much better than one with piddly farm tools, so take that in notice.
There are also minor factors as Tactical Advantages from the leading Generals, Morale from defeating important officers and of course, Terrain. Those can too affect the course of a battle as well.
Basic army PTA combat stats:
Range: The unit’s attack range. Most units have melee range of 1 only, but units like the Bowmen have different ones.
Movement : The unit’s movement range. An unit can move a number of squares (15 m) equal to their movement range.
Health: The normal army squad has hit points equal to five times the number of soldiers it has. For every 5 hit points it loses, the squad loses one soldier.
Attack power: The attack power of a squad is equal to the number of soldiers it has, modified by the quality of weapon they have. (ex: Decent weapons would give them a +10% boost)
Defense Power: The defense power of a squad is equal to half the number of soldiers it has, modified by the quality of armors they have. (ex: Decent armor would give them a +10% boost)
A normal attack by a squad deals damage equal to 1d10*(The number of soldiers the squad has /20)+AP(of the attacker)-DP(of the defender). The attacker, however, also receives damage as the defender counter-attacks using the same formula above (unless Range prevents it, for example when a Bowman unit attacks a melee unit and vice-versa). Attacks also have the following multipliers:
Tactical Powers and Terrain: Increase either AP or DP depending of the situation. They are added to AP/DP before…
Weapon and Pokémon type modifier: Doubles the AP if effective, halves if resisted. Double weakness and immunities of certain Pokémon are not taken in consideration for the sake of simplicity.
In a practice battle between an army of 300 swordsmen with Bulbasaurs, ‘Excellent’ gear who gives them a 50% boost against an army of a thousand spearmen with Squirtles and mediocre gear, assuming a 100 roll on the 15d10, the swordsmen would could deal up to a thousand and nine hundred points damage, smashing up to 380 of the spearmen in one blow.
Officers: Strong characters that often lead army squads, they usually have TACTICAL POWERS. Each officer has two kinds of Tactical Powers: Permanent and Temporary. Permanent powers work like Static feats and give you a minor advantage in something while a temporary power gives you a strong yet temporary boost. The stronger it is the lower is the duration, so mind when to use those! Officers also can duel with other officers while their squad watches. You can damage the morale and therefore the strength of a squad if you defeat its officer first.
Out of combat stuff: You can also administrate your territories when not fighting! Each army’s turn (One week), an officer can do one of the following actions in their owned lands:
*Hunting: Finds catchable Pokémon for the officer and his soldiers.
*Mobilizing: Either by patching up wounded soldiers or recruiting new ones, the officer’s squad size increases.
*Developing: Raises more money for the entire army and improves/creates certain locations on the territory.
*Shopping: Sell treasure you find, buy more items for yourself or your soldiers! Doesn't cost a turn.
Having different officers doing the same task makes better results than going alone! Also you cannot participate in battles other than defensive ones when doing one of those actions.
Types of Squads
O = Deals super effective damage (Double AP)
- = Deals neutrally effective damage
X = Deals ineffective damage (Half AP)

Setting and Lore
The Ransei region is located on the far east. While notorious for their stubborn adherence to ancient costumes and codes, the recent appearance of traders from a western empire brought them a new influx of trading goods, weapons and technology. This, combined with the slow decay of the ruling Imperial house, the Ashikaga, made the flames of rebellion start to fan as charismatic warlords started to gather their soldiers. Now, with the appearance of the weakest link, a full-out war for supremacy might start…
Historically the Region was supposedly colonized by mainland humans over four thousand years ago, led by a distant ancestor of the Emperor, a man said to be the son of the Sun Goddess herself. While the Imperial family always had that claim in place, for the last five hundred years they became nothing more than figureheads, being manipulated by Shoguns hungry for power, like the (NOT ANYMORE) late tyrant Taira Kiyomori, whose brutality and rumored connections to evil deities made his rule a bloody and torturous one. After the Taira clan was wiped out in the Genpei war, the Minamoto clan and their allies, the Hojô, started a more benevolent yet rigid Shogunate before themselves being overthrown in the Gekko war, whose bloody end made the then-strong Ashikaga family rise. However, the cycle continues as the Ashikaga are now a shadow of their former self and various regions start plans of dominance and independence.
On the spiritual side, Ransei appears to have a mystique of its own, with various gods, nature spirits and even demons populating the imaginary of the common person. Divination magic is used by Onmyoji, who use paper charms and other instruments to manipulate fate and the nature, while hermits, priests and shrine maidens prefer to channel the natural power in their own bodies. While most people follow local God or Nature-worshiping, a foreign cult called Trafism appears to have gripped many new converts in the south due to the influence of various missionaries and other proselytizers from the western lands.
Allied Factions
Not everyone out there wants the Shogunate to themselves! There are organizations and groups that have other kinds of priorities and goals, and they might as well help those who help them. As you adventure, you will find new factions to ally yourselves with and undertake quests to increase your standing with them. By doing so, many rewards can be unlocked!

Quests
Like every shitty RPG, we have some sidequests as well! There are two types of quests, Factional and Personal. Factional quests are required to increase the Friendship with certain factions, and can reward some neat stuff as well. Personal quests are for character development, and are a way to put some people on the spotlight! Of course you can bring the rest of the party with you as well, but the presence of the one with personal reasons to do so is obligatory of course. Rewards might include new UNIQUE feats and tactical powers!
Also feel free to talk to me about your Personal Quests. I will gladly shape and stat them according to what you think.
