Asteri Setting Info

Introduction

In the olden days, anyone could catch pokemon, and use them to fight. These "Trainers" would travel the land, proving their worth at pokemon gyms in each city, before competing with trainers from all around the world in the championships.

A lot has chanced since those days. In the Asteri region, catching and battling pokemon is outlawed to the general public - much in the same vein as street brawls tend to be outlawed. The Title of "Trainer" is held only by those that have earned their Battling License! That's not to say public opinion has lost interest in the sport of pokemon battling - quite the opposite! Pokemon competitions of all sorts - Battling, Contests, Pokeathlons - are immensely popular, and all pokemon trainers competing in the circuit are at least minor celebrities. Pokemon "Battle Clubs", essentially organized sport teams, fight each other in full-interference matches in what is the region's most popular league.

Asteri Circuit is a game about a team of trainers that have come together to form a new Pokemon League Club! They must work together to put their Battle Club on the Map, so to speak, and to rise to the top of the Asteri Circuit in competitive pokemon battling, interference matches, contests, and pokeathlons! But of course - there can only be one Championship winner at the year's end.

The life of a Pokemon Trainer sounds glamorous, but like everything, has a darker side: becoming an influential club irrevocably means being drawn into Asteri politics, and contending with criminals, cultists, and last but not least - unhinged fans.

Factions

Asteri is a full Stratocracy, and as such is led politically by the Asteri Rangers.

The Pokemon League - both Gyms and Battle Clubs - have close ties to the rangers, and still hold some political power and influence, though not nearly as much as it did 15 years ago. While many within the league are happy with its current place, many are unhappy with the power the rangers hold.

While the criminal organization Team Astra was disbanded 15 years ago, two competing groups have sprung up in its place. The first, Vincere Tenebras, is a wealthy and highly organized group known more commonly as "The Family".

The second is a more loosely organized and highly fragmented group, known as the Sleepers. Though rumors about them, and the strange new drugs they peddle, have begun to circulate, not much is known about them.

Cities

1 - Navi Town - Navi Town is a small city in the hills of northwest Asteri. In the olden days, this is where Pokemon Trainers received a Pokedex and started their journey across the Asteri Region. The Pokemon League Accreditation test is held here, so in many ways it is still the place where all Pokemon Trainers begin their journey. The Regionally funded Asteri Laboratory is here, and there are many farms and ranches here. The Ranger Training Academy is located a short distance outside of town.

2 - Zosma City - Zosma City is the oldest city in all of the Asteri region. It is the Political Center of the Asteri region, and the seat of the Asteri Rangers, and of the Ranger General. Though the downtown is quite busy with the bustle of politics, most of the city is affluent and quiet. The Nuveri Family Heir, Zoe Nuveri, hosts frequent privately funded competitions in her private estate here, and The NovaLab Research Center is located here, where most of the regions Pokeballs, TMs, and HMs are crafted. It's also the site of the Pokemon Global Link, where trainers can trade their pokemon.

3 - Gallus City - Gallus City is a large and industrious place, with much to see. Perhaps its most famous feature is the Gallus City University, one of the most highly regarded Pokemon universities in the world, and the hosts the region's Smart Contests. The Wildlife Preservation Institute, which conducts research on wild pokemon all over the world, is also located only a few miles outside of the city, near The Pools of Rana, a protected wildlife reserve. It's a very active college town, with many clubs, restaurants, and attractions.

4 - Talitha City - The largest city in the region, Talitha City certainly has the most impressive skyline. It's a hub of technology and business, and a very fast paced place. The city is known throughout the region for its street life: Street Food, Street Jam Contests, and sadly, also for illegal underground fighting rings, though the police are working hard at stamping these out. The world-famous Nuveri Concert Hall is here, which is host not only to musicians, but the region's Cute Contests as well. The region's largest amusement park, the Old Wharf Park, is located here. It's also home to the region's Battle Tower.e

5 - Lake Corona - This small town is most famous for one thing: The Asteri Regional Championships. Every year, thousands of people flock here to see trainers from all over the world fight for the title of Asteri Champion. The rest of the time though, it's a relatively quiet town, with many lake-side resorts and cabins.

6 - Deneb Town - This tiny town, perpetually chilly town in the Cygnus Mountains is an old fashioned and quiet place. The Cygnus Monastery is nearby, and in ancient times many came to seek the council of the sages here. It has a few old fashioned inns and resorts, but otherwise is probably of no interest to outsiders.

7 - Lyra City - The second largest city in the region, Lyra City is a beautiful place known for its emphasis on the arts. It is the host of the region's Super Contests, and the Star Bay Conference, where top Coordinators from all over the world compete for the title of Star Bay Champion. Lyra City has pristine, beautiful beaches, and its climate is mild and sunny almost all year round despite being so far north. The Asteri Artist's Guild is here, as well as the Lyra City Pokemon Musical. The Star Bay Market is an odd and lively place, where wares from all over the world may be found for purchase - but not for very long!

8 - Fomalhaut Town - Formerly, Fomalhaut was only a research station near the Canopus Forest, but in the last ten years has grown tremendously. It's a quiet town, and the majority of the residents have sort of connection to the Fomalhaut Medicinal Laboratory. The Fomalhaut Concert Hall is host to the region's Beauty Contests.

9 - Lepus Town - Lepus Town is a small, out of the way port town, that mostly makes its living through fishing. It's the home to some old historic sea-side castles, created centuries ago by explorers. Lepus Town is much livelier than it used to be however, at least part of the year, as it is host to the city's Pokeathlon and Tough Contests, both helds in the Eastern Fields Arena.

10 - Atria Town - Atria Town is very new, created partly as a place for those who evacuated Scheddi City 15 years ago, and partly by several wealthy philanthropists. Atria is pristine and beautiful, and its beaches rival those of Lyra City - and many say surpass. Atria Town's Nuveri Concert Hall managed to make itself the host of the region's Cool Contests.

11 - Ophiuchus Town - This tiny, mild town is generally a quiet foggy place. For some reason, technology has never worked very well here, and many of its inhabitants still live very rustic lifestyles. Few people outside of Asteri are likely to have heard of Ophiuchus Town until half a decade ago, when Eliah Mistral, the son of an Ophiuchus fisherman, became the Asteri Champion, and continued to hold the title to this day.

12 - Errai Town - Errai Town is the newest town in all of the Asteri Region. Like Atria Town, Errai Town was founded partly as a place to put those that were displaced by the calamity in Scheddi City. Unlike Atria Town, Errai was not so lucky in attracting funding. It's a cold, windy, rainy place, in the northern reaches of Asteri, and close to the Zosma Fjord.

Places of Interest

1 - Pools of Rana - The Pools of Rana is a rocky, estuarine salt marsh that serves as a wildlife preserve. Catching pokemon here is strictly illegal most of the time - but all trainers with a pokedex are allowed to catch exactly one Pokemon from the preserve using special balls.

2 - Ruins of Scheddi City - Scheddi City was, 50 years ago, the largest city in Asteri, the site of the Pokemon League, and a bustling Industrial center. Then the calamity struck. Only a few people know what really happened that day, and it seems they've decided to keep it to themselves. But nearly all of the city was destroyed. Slowly, they rebuilt, and though bleak, Scheddi City lived on. Until 15 years ago, when a criminal organization made the ruins their base. Scheddi was once again destroyed in the ensuing chaos, and was not rebuilt. A lone hermit woman still maintains the Scheddi City Gym among the ruins, however!

3 - Lake Corona - The vast and pristine Lake Corona is a popular tourist destination. It has soft, sandy beaches, and many underwater caves for those brave enough to go exploring.

4 - Den of Flames - The Den of Flames is a peculiar formation. It's a long tunnel, deep in the bedrock of Asteri. Access to the den is limited, but there are many rare pokemon to be found here. The two main openings are near Lyra City and Deneb Town.

5 - Canopus Forest - The Canopus Forest is thick and vibrant, and overflowing with plant life and pokemon. There's many medicinal herbs to be found here, but it's easy to get lost, as even well-worn paths quickly become overgrown.

6 - The Wastes - Surrounding the ruins of Yildun on all sides are the Wastes. It's a vast, desolate landscape. It's dry and cold here all year, and powerful windstorms rage constantly, sometimes becoming dreaded dust storms. However, rare pokemon are to be found here by the persistent and the lucky.

7 - The Ruins of Yildun - The Yildun Civilization were an ancient people who seem to have harnessed strange technology that almost seems like magic. There's a few lonely researchers here, studying its secrets, but generally the place is best avoided.

8 - The Fogs - The thick, constant fogs in the forests and marshes west and north of Ophiuchus Town are a thing of legend. No one knows why there's always a fog - it certainly makes no sense meteorological sense. Technology seems to become unpredictable here, so its easy to get lost when traveling through the marshes. Many people have gone in, and never been seen again.

9 - Lumine Mountain - The tallest peak in all of Asteri, good luck is said to come to all of those to make the journey to the peak by foot. However, it's a long and dangerous journey, as the pokemon around the peak are quite strong, but few who have made it all the way have been said to regret it.

10 - The Cygnus Mountains - The Northern Range of the Cygnus Mountain is constantly snowy and icy, and prone to avalanches. More trainers have been lost to this treacherous path than anywhere else, and as such now trainers are required by law to go in groups of 5 or more, and must have an experienced guide. The journey is said to be quite beautiful, and the Cygnus Glacier is said to be a sight to behold.

Clubs

01 - Zosma City - Heralds of Old Imperia - The Heralds of Old Imperia specialize in Dragon-Type Pokemon, their strategies are otherwise varied and flexible. Led by Azelea Nuveri, they are one of the most formidable clubs in the league.

02 - Gallus City - The Blade Folk - Led by eccentric célébrité Slasher Lash, The Blade Folk are a hugely unpopular Club, due to their tendency to play the villains, including antagonizing other clubs, trainers, and hitting their own Pokemon during battle. Nevertheless, they are strong fighters and one of the wealthier clubs.

03 - Talitha City - Cable Street Alliance - Led by Lightning Stevens, an Air Adept, the Cable Street Alliance is known for their flashy style, and the use of cybernetic implants in their Pokemon. Their strategy seems to be to flood the arena with electric attacks.

04 - Lake Corona - Knights of Skyhold - Known for their impressive speed and power, the Knights of Skyhold all ride flying Pokemon, attacking mercilessly from their saddles. Each of their member's specific strategies differ wildly beyond this single point, however.

05 - Lyra City - The Summersmoke Collective - The largest club by far, The Summersmoke Collective is always a league wild card, which tend to either win seemingly against all odds, or fail spectacularly. They're known for coming up with strange and overly complicated strategies, and never using the same one twice.

06 - Fomalhaut Town - The Writer's Guild - Though all members claim to be poets, playwrights, or writers, at first sight they more closely resemble toughened Martial Artists. They're known for their nearly unstoppable resilience, inscrutable powers, and for their use of their Pokemon - Unown - as weapons rather than combatants.

07 - Deneb Town - Summit's Call - One of the newest clubs, the Summit's Call's strategies are still mostly unknown, though the trainers seem to focus on Mysticism.

08 - Atria Town - The Wrecking Krew - Led by the head foreman who worked on the construction of Atria Town, this club is known for their impressive facilities, built with various surprising gimmicks. They also use ample use of the terrain of the battlegrounds they fight in, usually filling them with traps and other annoyances.

09 - Lepus Town - The Hand of Canute - Led by reformed Cultist Arnold Pigsley, better known as Brother Keymaster, the Hand of Canute delves deep into strange and powerful magic. It's quite obvious they tend to ham it up during matches for performances - and it's working, too. Lepus Town has been much better off since The Hand of Canute entered the circuit.

10 - Errai Town - That's you dorks!
