Iris was born in the better part of Pyrite Town, which honestly isn't saying much. Her father James, and her mother Olivia ran a small repair shop for old gadgets and inventions but often worked late trying to scrape by. Between school and getting into trouble, Iris was kept busy but not overly much so. She rapidly began to fall behind in school work and by the age of thirteen ended up brawling more often then she did studying. Not Pokemon fighting either, but classic break-your-face-in brawling.
Finally her mother had enough and sent her to live with her second cousin, Amelia, in Phenac City. Amelia worked in the flower shop and had a small house with her husband and they kept an eye on Iris as she grew up. She spent a lot of time in Remedial classes but otherwise took to training herself with a passion, being the only way she could have a battle anymore. As time went by she mellowed out though she was still prone to fights and when she became an adult she was quick to leave.
Eager to get on with her life she sought any job opportunity she could, and found one as a prospective field researcher fairly easily. She's happy to do it for now due to the good paycheck, and the fact it gives her time to search for a home of her own.
