Using Your Skills

All Skills are tied to one of your four Capabilities. When you make a Check involving your Skill, you will roll 1d20, and add both your Skill Bonus and tied Capability. So if you make an Acrobatics Skill Check, for example, you would roll 1d20 and add your Acrobatics Bonus and your Agility to the result.

There are 16 Skills: 10 General Skills, and 6 Specialized Skills.

General Skills, such as Acrobatics or Perception, can be used by anyone to make general skill checks, even if they have no points in that skill. A general skill check for the Perception Skill, for example, would be to simply notice something.

When making general Skill Checks, your DM first determines a Difficulty for the check, and you must roll your skill and match or exceed the difficulty. An "easy" skill check might have a Difficulty Check, or DC, of 5 or 10. A "medium" skill check might have a DC of 15. And a challenging Skill Check could have a check of 20 or even 25, or even higher if the situation calls for it.

Specialized Skills only serve a function if you have related Features. You should make sure your character plans to make use of these Features before you invest Skill Points in Specialized Skills.

General Skills

Acrobatics

Acrobatics is an General Agility Skill.
The Acrobatics skill can be used to make general skill checks whenever your character attempts a tricky jump or acrobatic maneuver.

Additionally, if a character is Riding a Pokemon, they may need to make an Acrobatics Check to maintain their balance. See the Riding Section for more details.

Brawling

Brawiling is a General Power Skill.

Charm

Charm is a General Confidence Skill.
The Charm Skill is used whenever a character attempts to persuade or impress people or Pokemon. The Charm Skill could be used to convince cautious or wary Pokemon to let you approach, for example.

Command

Command is a General Confidence Skill.

The Command Skill is used to control Unruly Pokemon; see the Loyalty Section for more details.

Intimidate

Intimidate is a General Confidence Skill.
The Intimidate Skill is used whenever a character attempts to manipulate a person or Pokemon through fear. The Intimidate Skill could, for example, be used to make Wild Pokemon flee, or perhaps even make a Hostile Pokemon reconsider attacking.

Perception

Perception is a General Intelligence Skill.
Perception is used to make general skill checks to notice easy-to-miss objects or peculiarities, or to actively search an area.

Perform

Perform is a General Confidence Skill.

The Performance Skill is used in Contests to gague your trainer's ability to present themselves and their Pokemon. See the Contest section for more details.

Pokemon Knowledge

Pokemon Knowledge is a General Intelligence Skill.

You may spend a Trainer Action to Observe a Pokemon. If you do, roll Pokemon Knowledge. On a roll of 10 or higher, you identify the Pokemon's Nature. On a Roll of 15 or higher, you identify the Pokemon's Abilities. You may also find out if a Pokemon is of a different Type than normal. The difficulty is up to your GM, and you may automatically succeed by just taking a moment to observe.

Regional Knowledge

Regional Knowledge is a General Intelligence Skill.
Regional Knowledge tests the character's knowledge of the world. It can be used test the knowledge of lore, Gym specialties, major sights, and important people or celebrities, or anythign else your DM deems permissible.

Stealth

Stealth is a General Agility Skill.
The Stealth Skill is used to test your skills a character's skills at hiding, and performing actions silently. It may be tested if a character needs to sneak past a sleeping person or Pokemon, for example.

Survival

Survival is a General Agility Skill.
The Survival Skill is used to find your way through the wilderness, start a campfire, or make shelter.

Specialized Skills

Artifice

Artifice is a Specialized Power Skill.

Engineering

Engineering is a Specialized Intelligence Skill.

Medicine

Medicine is a Specialized Intelligence Skill.

Mysticism

Mysticism is a Specialized Intelligence Skill.

Psionics

Psionics is a Specialized Intelligence Skill.

Tactics

Tactics is a Specialized Intelligence Skill.

Technology

Technology is a Specialized Intelligence Skill.
