Pantheon of Zong

The world of Zong has a pantheon of gods, formed from legendary Pokemon capable of gathering power from worship. Worship of a certain deity does not exclude you from paying honor to another, but most devote most service towards one. While legendary Pokemon gain the most benefit from worship, there have been cults devoted to the most ancient of regular Pokemon. They usually do not spread beyond the initial birth of the cult and do not benefit the Pokemon beyond abnormal lifespan and a slight increase in power.

The Legendary Pantheon is split into two groups, denoting the largest gap in power. Major Gods are gods that have domain over overarching concepts, large religions, and specific priesthoods. Household Gods are more specific in their purpose, but are more likely to have shrines and monks that watch over their worship. It is common for a family or company to worship a single major god and a small number of household gods.

All gods are only seen through their influence and the very rare visit of an avatar or conduit. Most are referred to as male, with a small amount being female in nature, but all are actually asexual. They are able to appear as either sex when shown through a vision or possessing a follower. Each celestial has the ability to send forth fractions of their power as Pokemon servants. These servants are rarely seen and are about as rare as the traditional Legendary Pokemon. They each carry characteristics of the parent celestial, but are not capable of legendary acts or as strong. They are able to become caught if the player is in good standing with the parent celestial or if they are strong enough to contain portions of power from a god. Each celestial fragment has been named by followers of the celestial; Arceus -> Arcduos

Major Gods

Mew - Ancestors

151.gif

- Mew is believed to be the ancestor of all modern Pokemon, leading to his worship as the god of all collective family lines. He represents respect for the elders inside and out of your own family, as well as the importance of heritage.

- His priests perform many overlapping duties with other sects, births, deaths, and marriages all affect the family records that they keep. Wills left by parents and other relatives are kept by these priests, keeping the desires left behind by those deceased intact.

- There are few who despise his sect, mainly those who have been purged from a family, or betrayed in some way by those they were supposed to respect. Most offer a compulsory visit every few years to a shrine or temple.

Giratina - Guile, Guardian of the Afterlife

487-origin.gif

- Giratina is regarded as the one who guides lost souls to their destination, be it reincarnation as a Pokemon, eternal rest, or eternal damnation. He is considered a very trickster god, often leading souls astray if they do not see through his plots. Still, he regards his job seriously and punishes any who try to deny the natural order. He is also considered the god of deception and wiles, any liar or con artist can attest that he is fickle in that regard as well.

- Giratina's priests act as both doctors and coroners, making sure his followers don't die until their right time. They are not as desired as caretakers as Moltres' monks or Regigigas' doctors, mainly due to the fact that they might deem that it is your time to pass away, and make it a quick and painless death.

- The priesthood acts in conjunction with Cresselia and Darkrai, not antagonizing either. Arceus, Regigigas, and Shaymin's priests all hesitate to interact with Giratina's due to the fact that he counters their beliefs to some degree.

Cresselia - Dreams, Hope, Death

488.gif

- Cresselia represents the positive aspect of Death, dying after living a long and fulfilling life, dying in the victory of a venture, and dying in a sacrifice. Dreams are provided by Cresselia, which in turn can produce the hopes and goals in life that one would strive for. She grants boons for those attempting to reach a hard to achieve goal and pushes those working towards a dream.

- Her priests often attempt to rehabilitate those down on their luck, sending them out into the world to work towards their own goals. One of the worst sins in their eyes is stagnating and dying without achieving anything, they will refuse to give handouts, only when the people they help will move on with their own power. They perform burials for those who have died heroic deaths or for the wealthy who died of old age.

- The priesthood looks down on that of Darkrai, often ignoring services towards the worshipers of the other faction. A slight resentment towards Giratina lingers as their followers are left in his care, despite what they do. The idea of Fate and Destiny also do not sit well with them, as any work towards a dream would be fruitless.

Darkrai - Fears, Shadows, Death

491.gif

- Darkrai represents a truer aspect of Death. Disease, wounds, murder, and suicide lies under his domain. He is seen as a bitter god, disrespected while he only attempts to do his job. With this position, it was natural that he became the god of fears and shadows. His worship is hoped to bring about alleviation of whatever phobia the person is afflicted with. Rogues and the less socially accepted pray to him for assistance with their own jobs, and hope that he does not cast on them what they have done to others.

- His priests often receive less support than Cresselia or Giratina, and thus their services are reserved for the bare necessities. Burials and services for those not seen to by the other two priesthoods are performed by the somber monks and priests. They attempt to heal any beset by sickness, but are often not heeded, leading to death and furthering the fear of Darkrai. They never receive any direct support from the seedier side of society, but any threats against the priests are often dealt with quite harshly, despite what the priests would want.

- Darkrai Priests often keep their head down to avoid conflicts with sects established in areas, worshipers have a stigma of loving the worst aspects of death. They get along well with the Giratina sect, as no matter how you die, Giratina judges you and sends you to your appointed afterlife.

Heatran - Rebirth, Forge, Creation

485.gif

- Heatran is the god of rebuilding, reorganization, and reworking anything into a better form. This includes everything from lifestyles, government organizations, equipment, and personal health. Workers of a forge depend heavily on him to oversee their bellows and raw materials, hoping to make a better product in the end.

- His priests focus heavily on improving whatever can be changed, constantly rebuilding shrines and temples. They are the first into an area hit by disasters, working to rebuild things into a new form. Almost every priest has or still works in a profession that demands physical abilities, so they are all in very good shape.

- Heatran's followers get along surprisingly well with the three Death god's worshipers, as they see it as a new opportunity to rebuild into something new. The loss of a parents invites a new figure to step forward and grow, the loss of a child invites the family to grow closer and look towards the living. Sometimes they are seen as callous, but most often just reckless with their authority.

Arceus - Life, Honesty, Pokemon

493.gif

- Arceus is considered among his followers as the true god among legendary Pokemon, but this is wildly disregarded by everyone else. Nobody likes a spotlight hog. Truth and justice are both domains that he claims. Although this doesn't include actual judgment. The god usually stays out of any business, leaving the priests and followers to follow his rulings. Any concerns about Pokemon are also brought to his temples. Any sickness, lost friends, or simply reassuring that they will be safe are all common concerns.

- His priests act as overseers in political and social disputes, following what they believe to be the truth as best they can. There are certain sections of the priesthood who deal only with Pokemon, assisting in any way possible, either training, healing, or comforting Pokemon. All of the religion believes that life is sacred, and only in the most necessary situations should one kill.

- Due to their hesitance to kill, certain members believe that Giratina's priests are deliberately attacking Arceus's flock and should not be allowed to act freely in civilized areas. They interact with great frequency with the Regigigas sect, assisting with any problems of the world that might affect the people and Pokemon within it.

Regigigas - State of the world, Parenthood, Engineering

486.gif

- Regigigas created the world, the blank slate with no intelligent life. He acts to change the overall state of the world, sliding continents and changing nations. Thus, he is described as the caretaker of the global machine. The world under his meticulous gaze. Those that he created are not as vibrant as humans or Pokemon, but act as a specific function. He is worshiped by expecting parents for their child to be as hardy as the golems he has fathered. Engineers and mechanics ask him for guidance on their designs and blueprints, hoping that they would work as harmoniously as the Earth does. His three major children, Regirock, Registeel, and Regice are all gods in their own might.

- His sect focuses on personal health, as to keep on working, your personal health is just as important as the job at hand. Although viewed as slightly emotionless, they often take in orphans to care for, hoping that they will grow up and contribute to the world as another cog in the great machine. Many great inventions and improvements has come from the Gigas sect, such as complex mechanisms like clocks and locks.

- The sect cooperates with Heatran's to a degree that there is almost no animosity between the two. The Households of the three golems looks towards his sect for assistance on matters too large for them to handle alone. Groudon's and Kyogre's sects both refuse to say that they are below Regigigas, but it is widely believed that they are.

Shaymin - Birth, exploration

492.gif

- Shaymin is considered a free spirit, going wherever he wishes, and wherever he goes the land flourishes. He gives boons to those going into new fields and lands. Due to the growth associated with him, he also is the patron celestial of birth.

- His priests break ground on many facilities, accompany expeditions, and act as midwives for established towns. They are often aloof and would rather stay on the move than stick with slow moving caravans.

- Women giving birth often silently reject Shaymin as a god of birth, as his carefree attitude does not line up well with most mothers hopes. Landorus' followers more often than not take care of young children than Shaymin's, which leads to some friction.

Dialga - Passage of Time, Record Keeping, History

483.gif

- Dialga is the god of time, often cursed, often respected, rarely worshipped. He holds domain over such a vague concept that he does not reach such a power that could be considered control over time.

- The temples of Dialga serve as reservoirs of knowledge, and also serve as his main point of worship. Those coming to find details of the past also give thanks to the god, granting him slightly more power than before. Monks and Priests keep varying levels of detail for historical events, the higher the concentration of worship, the more accurate the records the area can hold. The most favored have been rumored to be able to look into the past for important events. They praise Dialga for keeping time from stopping or breaking, which would go unnoticed to all but Dialga.

- Some sects often disregard the temple of Dialga as a true religion, calling them scribes instead of priests or monks. They do demand more respect in areas that hold the history in higher regard. Palkia's worshipers often show their respects if only to show the same grudging respect that Palkia is said to have for Dialga.

Palkia - The moment, Impulse, Physical wellbeing

484.gif

- Palkia lords over all of the physical world at the specific moment everything exists, more concerned with the instant that is happening than what will happen or what has happened. As such he is seen as the most impulsive of gods and most concerned with how his worshipers are doing at the moment.

- His priests act for what they see as the best course currently, not looking towards the future. For this reason many temples are not permanent structures because the leading monks either die in their duties or cripple themselves in reckless acts. This does mean they actively seek harm, but if something is happening in front of them, they will act regardless of what it could bring in the future. They are often in amazing physical shape, if lacking in higher education or tact. If someone has become ill, the priests will tend to them, but once they have become better immediately fall off the radar from the religions attention.

- Nearly every other religion finds the impulsiveness of Palkia's following dangerous and irresponsible, but is unwilling to directly confront them or even snub them indirectly in case it draws their wrath. Such they have earned a bubble where they seem content to follow their god and have no one tell them they're wrong in the least.

Reshiram - Pursuit of Truth, Trade

643.gif

- Reshiram is the god of the pursuit of truth, not objective truth. The idea of truth is higher in his eyes than what might actually occur. If someone was to seek out the truth of a situation, no matter the outcome, regardless of any ideals they hold, Reshiram would bless them. He oversees many transactions because it holds truth to the value of goods bartered, no matter if it is true for the seller or buyer.

- His priests often are amazing liars, or purveyors of truth. Showing their truth of things they have learned to turn a situation to their side. They are often hired to find out the truth on high profile figures or to oversee negotiations.

- Most followers are despised by those they deal with. Traders hate finding they have been slighted through a small loophole that is technically truth while often ignored. Zekrom clashes and also celebrates with Reshiram, personal truth often aiding in an ideal, or even being the ideal that is sought after. Kyurem is the one faction that Reshiram's sect will not work with in any shape.

Zekrom - Pursuit of Ideals, Quests

644.gif

- Zekrom is the patron of any seeking to accomplish an ideal, be it a dream, quest, or belief. His entire purpose is for the belief attempting to come into reality. The quests followers go on are entirely the point of his assistance, the goals have no import, nor if they actually succeed.

- His clergy quite often attach themselves to groups of warriors, politicians, or exiled royalty, furthering their chosen side. While his priests devote themselves entirely, worshipers can range from young adults seeking love, to forgotten heroes attempting to end age long feuds.

- The sect of Zekrom are seen as fanatics when opposing your actions, and saviors when assisting you. They will occasionally assist Reshiram and Kyurem's followers if it furthers their own goal. Since their own actions are for the far reaching future they are sometimes seen as scheming, pondering fanatics.

Kyurem - Pursuit of Results, Pragmatism

646.gif

- Kyurem seeks results, no matter the course or reason. If something needs to be accomplished no matter the cost or reason, this celestial would have a hand in it. Pragmatic to a fault the god only bothers with getting a job finished, be it by quitting, or by killing anyone who would delay the job further.

- Kyurem's followers belong to a strange middle ground where they simply want change from the current state, and Kyurem provides motion for that. They offer out their services for donations or payments, along with assisting anything that they believe will cause a large reaction in the larger civilization. Priests can very from those upset with the current state of things, to those who want to watch the world burn.

- Both other dragon's sect try to disassociate themselves with Kyurem as their own pursuits are often corrupted when gaining assistance from the more pragmatic. Many regular citizens don't even recognize the priests of Kyurem, seeing them only as psychopaths who act on whims to cause chaos.

Lugia - Sea Travel Guardian

Ho-Oh - Land Travel Guardian

250.gif

- Ho-oh guards any travelers that seek to move goods, their homes, or simply visit an area by land. It is the watcher that causes events to unfold unfavorably for bandits if the group has earned it's favor. Similarly if the group has done something to offend, any group will find bandits at every side. The god is not omniscient though and can sometimes be deceived or tricked into accosting certain groups or defending others.

- Monks vary from wandering swordsman defending the road, to the elderly, offering asylum to those worn from the road. Priests are often seen leading travelers, while they make pilgrimages to various cities. To be seen as a wanderer on the roads is often a sign of good luck within the faith, as it means that you haven't had the bad luck of offending Ho-oh to the point where you are set upon and killed.

- To those who rarely leave their homes or cities, some of the priests and followers are seen as vagrant, as they have no home in most places they travel to. These people will rarely ever deny the priest though, as that might cause a stroke of bad luck on the next trip they take. Store owners who sell traveling supplies often give gifts to the monks and priests, cobblers gain the seal of approval from the same.

Household Gods

Tornadus - Winds, Spreading Seeds

641.gif

- Tornadus holds joint sway over all winds, alongside Zapdos. Mostly his territory is land based wind and spreading of seeds. If the winds blow through a forest or over a field of grain, it is said that Tornadus has been there. Spreading seeds, be it airborne or by Pokemon, is also his domain.

- His priests often take up residence inside windmills that power mills. They collect seeds and distribute them to farmers, traders, and the other djinn sects. Often though they take to the path and go where the wind takes them, often somewhere alongside Thundurus and Landorus followers.

- They are seen as absentminded and obsessive by most others outside of the djinn trio, but appreciated in times after famine. Followers of Zapdos often criticize them if the winds perform poorly for weather or other acts.

Thundurus - Sources of Water, Farming

642.gif

- Thundurus is god over landlocked water, rain, and rivers. Providing water for the fields and plants that are created from the other two djinn celestials. He is the god that is prayed to when the land is in a drought and the land needs moisture.

- His priests often work directly with supplying fields with water, either through canals, water Pokemon, or dams. They are the most stable of the three djinn sect, often working years on one area of irrigation before becoming satisfied, and still coming back years later for repairs.

- They are often blamed by everyone except the other two djinn sects when water levels drop and thirst becomes an issue, this mainly happens in areas with low concentrations of water Pokemon, as elsewhere it is only a matter of breeding until the problem is solved.

Landorus - Fertility, Farming

645.gif

- Landorus is the god of fertile lands, and unintentionally fertile women and Pokemon. He is worshipped directly by farmers and any attempting to grow things and thus is the strongest of the three.

- His priests work directly in the field, tilling and spreading any nutrients the soil needs. They also transplant and work with Tornadus' seeds to grow varied plants to prevent destroying an area of fertile land. Most often shoved into assisting pregnant women after they request a monk or priest other than Shaymin's they are gruff, but straightforward and honest. Women unable to give birth sometimes work the fields or breed Pokemon in hopes that they will be blessed with children.

- While they attempt to help as much they can, they still feel more comfortable in the fields leading to some contempt for Shaymin. Breeders often associate with Landorus heavily, and in return have great supplies of food to feed their young, fresh from the fields.

Suicune - Safe Passage, Aquatic Pokemon

245.gif

-Suicune is a god that mainly watches over harmful natural occurrences, reducing or preventing harmful outcomes to those under her favor. The actions of humans do not fall under her sway and so she can only attempt to change hazardous currents, weather patterns, and migrations of Pokemon. She also guards over the health of aquatic Pokemon.

- The clergy of Suicune maintain roads and pathways in many areas, visiting old bridges and repairing them so no accidents happen. They herd dangerous Pokemon away from highly trafficked areas and attempt to foretell dangerous weather with help from various Pokemon. They assist in any problems with aquatic Pokemon, mainly overseeing fishing ventures to ensure nothing harms the greater well being of the sea dwellers.

- Like the other two celestial dogs, the followers of this god share a close bond with both Lugia and Ho-oh. All closely related to the travelers and a journey.

Victini - Wealth, Fate

494.gif

- Victini is a fairy that is said to bestow wealth and good fortune, as well as guide fate. He is a fiery spirit that favors the bold and does not simply grant wealth to those who wish it, preferring to benefit the hardworking.

- Victini's monks rarely need assistance of their gods wealth, as donations flood the shrines in an attempt to gain favor. The monks often use the shrines or temples as money exchanges, going out and using gained funds to correct market imbalances.

- Younger generations see Victini as a god of love, leading destined couples to their soulmates. Devout followers of the wealth god often have small trinkets or baubles made of a valuable material that shows Victini in a favorable situation. The sects which look down on such material possessions are often at slight odds with the followers of Victini. The wealthy dismiss this as jealousy of their success.
